The Ever Present EMF

What is EMF? EMF stands for Electro Magnetic Field. Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines EMF as a field (as around a working computer or a transmitting high-voltage power line) that is made up of associated electric and magnetic components, that results from the motion of an electric charge, and that possesses a definite amount of electromagnetic energy.

Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) have always been here. Always.  As long as there has been a sun and an earth, there have been EMFs.  We receive natural EMFs from the sun and earth.  It wasn’t until mankind learned to generate electricity (and EMFs) that we hit technological breakthroughs like lightbulbs and radio communications. And now, more than 100 years later, we have become almost completely dependent on high-performing computers, microwave ovens, and many other modern day to day technologies, including the Infrared Sauna.

EMFs are measured in milliGauss (mG). To give you an example of mG ratings, here are a few objects and its mG rating that we are in constant contact with every day.

  • Microwave Oven: 60mG @ 1 foot distance
  • Electric Stove: 22mG @ 1 foot distance
  • Electric Can Opener: 115mG @ 1 foot distance
  • Electric Stand Mixer: 52mG @ 1 foot distance

The low EMF ratings on Planet Sauna’s Infrared Saunas easily come within the safety guidelines of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As per the manufacturer, there is a rating of 10mG at a distance of less than an inch away; 2mG at a distance of less than a foot away; and 6mG sitting on the bench.

Planet Sauna strives to not only offer you the comforts of having an Infrared Sauna in your home, but we also want you to know that you are not in danger. We would not offer an item that we would not believe in. If it isn’t fit for our families, it wouldn’t be here.

We are also proud to offer Near Zero EMF Infrared Saunas. Our Near Zero EMF Series Sauna products are tested within the scope of the standard EN 62233: 2008 -The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) - which requires that products comply with standards relating to human exposure to EMF up to 300GHz in addition to complying with standards covering electrical safety. EMF measurements are completed with a gauss meter. Our Near Zero EMF Carbon Heaters are below 3mG, as our tests reveal less than 2mG.
